Green Globe member, the Musik und Kongresshalle Luebeck (MuK) in Germany, partnered with Climate Alliance Air Pro Luebeck to celebrate the first green concert, held at MuK on March 24. Over 1,200 guests were invited to this event, which was highlighted by the City of Luebecks` recognition for outstanding environmental achievements.
Dr. Robert Habeck, Regional Minister for Energy, Agriculture, and the Environment, explained the significance of the green concert: “These days, events are measured by their ecological footprint. Large-scale events unite a community. Many people come together, and this makes a perfect opportunity to raise awareness and set a good example. The city of Luebeck has done an excellent job, promoting its goal to be a 100% sustainable and green city.”
“They Will Talk About Us” was the opening song, performed by local band “Jeden Tag Sylvester,” and it was also the overall motto of the evening. All guests were encouraged to join the good cause and participate in the “bicycle disco.” By stepping into the pedals, the energy required for stage lighting was produced. This project was funded by the regional bank and the city of Luebeck.
“As an event organizer we have to act in a responsible manner and deliver a sustainable product,” commented Ilona Jarabek, Managing Director at MuK, who likes to use a bicycle to travel to her appointments within the city. “The bicycle disco project was not only a lot of fun, but it`s also good for your health, and for the environment. This successful evening set the stage for many more green events to come.”
Air Pro Luebeck is an alliance of local businesses and institutions, aiming to promote climate protection in the region. The main objective is to educate the public on environmental issues, initiating projects to help preserving this World Heritage site and making the “Hanseatic” city of Luebeck a green destination.
