Spring Air offers free tickets on its Japan route
China’s biggest low-cost carrier, Spring Airlines, is offering free tickets to Japan. This marketing message is to boost demand, since the recent bilateral territorial dispute over islands in the East China Sea has led to hundreds of cancellations between the two nations. The airline is offering free return tickets between Shanghai Pudong and Japan’s Saga prefecture in southern Japan near the city of Fukuoka, until December 20.
Spring Airlines’ three flights a week on the route had 90% occupancy before the dispute but are now more than half empty. Normally, a round-trip Pudong-Saga ticket costs anywhere from CNY 239 (€30) to CNY 3000 (€365), not including tax and fuel surcharges.
