Fred Olsen ends sales with Thomas Cook

Oslo-based company pulls sales after insurance decision

The Oslo-based ferry company and cruise line Fred Olsen has ended its trading relationship with Thomas Cook after being unable to reach an agreement on new commercial arrangements. Following weeks of discussions, it said it had reached a “mutual decision” with Thomas Cook Co-operative Travel after a decision to remove credit insurance on third-party suppliers from Thomas Cook sales.
The cruise line explained: “Fred Olsen has a stated policy that it will not trade with any agent where its pipeline monies [payments collected by an agent from the client on its behalf] are not financially protected.”
Thomas Cook confirmed: “From today (April 17), we will not be racking their products nor making new bookings with them through our network of 1,200 stores or via our call centres.”
