Meanwhile Widerøe employees prepare buyout offer
As SAS quickly launches plans to raise SEK 3 billion (€347 million) by selling off its assets, the UK-based European regional airline Flybe says it may be interested in buying the airline’s Norwegian subsidiary Widerøe.
“We are always looking for opportunities to expand in Scandinavia, the Nordics and the Baltics”, a Flybe spokeswoman tells the Norwegian daily Aftenposten. “We will now look at the opportunities that have opened up in Norway with Widerøe going up for sale.”
Flybe has already set up Flybe Nordic, a joint venture with Finnair. However, Widerøe employees are said to be working on making a buyout offer to SAS together with an external investor.
