The operating company of Berlin‘s airports, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) has initiated additional planning and construction works which are required for the beginning of operations at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). As announced at the time, the airport operating company signed a contract with Siemens last week concerning the required modifications to the control functions of the smoke extraction system. Further planning and preliminary work is needed to allow Siemens to start working on the modifications.
The package adopted includes:
· The preliminary planning for modifications of individual smoke extraction systems in the terminal building;
· The planning and coordination of construction works to be carried out by Siemens and other companies;
· The construction of a sprinkler system in the North Pier of the new airport. A building permission was granted last week; and
· Final construction works in the North Pier and in the terminal building.
Furthermore, the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH decided today to assign a new full-time position to Mr Horst Amann. He will take over as Managing Director of Flughafen Energie und Wasser GmbH (FEW). FEW is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the airport operating company which provides utility and disposal services to FBB. Mr Amann’s role as Chief Operating Officer of FBB will therefore draw to a close.
