LOT to compete with Norwegian on Oslo-Warsaw
LOT Polish Airlines is linking Oslo with Warsaw in a new “high-frequency connection between two Star Alliance hubs”, airport operator Avinor reports.
To start on March 25, the 13 times’ weekly service will be Oslo Airport’s fifth connection to Poland, operated by the Polish flag carrier’s three-class E195s. It will be twice-daily except Saturdays, specifically targeting business passengers.
LOT will be Oslo’s tenth Star Alliance carrier and will, Avinor says, open up LOT’s extensive network across Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Far East.
LOT will compete with Norwegian’s existing six times’ weekly service to Warsaw. Avinor says there are already 19 routes between its airports and Poland – five from Bergen, four each from Oslo and Stavanger, two from Trondheim and one each from Alesund, Molde, Haugesund and Kristiansand.
With Tromsø starting its first Polish link later this year, Gdansk, from December 16, this connection count will become 21 during 2018.
“We’ve had a successful low-cost product on this route for some time and in welcoming LOT Polish Airlines to Oslo and introducing a full-service hub carrier on the sector, we can open up the city pair to a different market,” explains Jasper Spruit, VP for traffic development at Avinor.
“We’re very proud of our Star Alliance carrier portfolio connecting Oslo to the world’s major hubs and the inclusion of our newest partner will serve as another engine for further growth across Avinor.”
