First new hotel in Östersund in 20 years

New hotel and meeting venue by Åre Östersund Airport

Construction work on a new hotel in Frösön, the biggest island in Lake Storsjön, west of the town of Östersund, will start in March. The property will have more than 200 rooms including 10 suites.

The hotel is the next step in the evolution of the Frösö Park area, where the inauguration of a new meeting and exhibition venue took place in November 2013.

With sweeping countryside views of the lake, Oviksfjällen and Areskutan, the hotel will be built opposite the terminal for Åre Östersund Airport and will be the first new hotel to be built in Östersund in over 20 years.

Intriguingly, the hotel will be linked to what used to be a military mess – an eatery used by the Jämtland Air Force Wing. There will be lots of space for conferences, a restaurant and a spa and fitness centre; in total the complex will cover more than 12,000 square metres. The hotel is scheduled to open in spring 2015.
