Belmond to launch Peru sleeper train next May
An upmarket travel brand is preparing to launch the first luxury sleeper train in South America next year. Belmond’s Andean Explorer will operate along one of the world’s highest rail routes in the Peruvian Andes from May 2017.
The new train will have capacity for 68 guests in a range of en-suite cabins including two double cabins, 20 twin cabins and 12 bunk-bed style cabins for two people.
There will also be two dining cars, a lounge car and an observation car with open-air deck for scenic viewing.
Four itineraries will be on offer including a one-night Spirit of the Andes trip from Lake Titicaca to Cusco, and a two-night, three-day journey called Peruvian Highlands from Cusco to Lake Titicaca and Arequipa.
Prices start from $462pp (€406) for Spirit of the Andes, including all meals, open bar and excursions.
Belmond Andean Explorer will be owned by PeruRail, a joint venture between Belmond and Peruvian investors, and will be operated by Belmond, which already operates seven luxury trains around the world.
