LGBT tour operator charters AmaWaterways’ AmaLotus
What’s being described as the first Mekong River cruise aimed at gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender travellers will take place in October. Brand g Vacations, a US-based LGBT tour operator, has chartered AmaWaterways’ 124-passenger AmaLotus for a seven-night journey through Cambodia and Vietnam stopping at small villages and historic sites along the way. There is also an extended 11-night package. The AmaLotus is one of several new river-cruise vessels that have started sailing the Mekong in the last four years.
In related news: Benefiting from the ongoing boom in river cruising, AmaWaterways will debut two new ships in Amsterdam and Portugal in 2013. The 164-passenger AmaPrima will make its maiden voyage on April 3. The 106-passenger AmaVida will make its debut on March 26 in Porto. The AmaPrima will service 10 itineraries focused on the Danube, while the AmaVida will have four itineraries on the Douro River.
