Airline posts strong traffic performance in July 2017
Finnair continues to see strong traffic figures, pushed up by rising passenger numbers on its Asia routes.
The Finnish airline carried 1.12 million passengers during the month, the highest number ever, beating the previous record in June, at 1.10 million.
Overall capacity (available seat kilometres) rose 11.6% year‐on‐year, and traffic (revenue passenger kilometres) grew by 13.6%. Load factor increased by 1.6 percentage points to 90.2%.
Capacity in Finnair’s largest traffic area, Asia, increased by 14.8% in July and traffic by 19.8%, pushing load factor to 92.6%. The selection of routes and frequencies was mainly unchanged, but there were increased frequencies to Tokyo and Hong Kong in particular.
Capacity in North Atlantic traffic was broadly unchanged but traffic measured in RPK increased by 3.9% due to a high passenger load factor. Finnair suspended its Miami route for the summer but launched a new San Francisco route at the start of June.
Finnair’s capacity in European traffic increased by 10.8% reflecting new seasonal summer routes as well as four new A321s, while traffic grew 9.6%. Domestic capacity rose 6.3% but traffic fell 7.8%.
