Hoax bomb threat strikes plane at JFK airport in New York

Finnair received a hijack and bomb-threat call about one of its planes yesterday, but after a security check by authorities in New York it was given the all-clear. Flight AY 005, which departed from Helsinki to New York with 227 passengers on board and nine crew, was security checked and cleared, and the plane was then able to taxi to the gate and the passengers were allowed to leave the aircraft. Finnair’s return flight from New York was delayed by about an hour because of the incident.
“The plane has now been checked and given an all-clear,” Ville Iho, Finnair’s chief operating officer, commented. “We have been informed that similar hoax threats were made at several US airports today. We take any threats to security very seriously and never compromise on security. We worked in close cooperation with authorities in New York to clear the situation.”
