Routes to Copenhagen, Billund, Reykjavik strengthened
Finnair says it will be adding capacity on several European short-haul routes from Helsinki for the upcoming year, including routes to Copenhagen, Billund and Reykjavik.
Due to what it says is popular demand for its new Reykjavik route, which begins on April 11, the Finnish airline is adding a fifth weekly frequency on Wednesdays from May 31 to August 11.
Reykjavik will also become a year-round destination with three weekly frequencies in winter. The service is complemented by flights operated by Icelandair where Finnair has a codeshare.
Finnair will also boost capacity in Denmark with an additional daily frequency on weekdays to Copenhagen and a larger aircraft on the Billund route.
As of May 14, five weekly frequencies will be added year-round to Copenhagen, including a morning flight from CPH to “enable convenient day trips to Helsinki for business passengers”, the airline says. Compared to last summer, Finnair is increasing Copenhagen capacity by 21%.
Finnair began flying to Billund last spring and will now increase capacity there between June and August by flying four days a week with an A319, instead of an E90. This means available capacity will rise by 11%.
“Last year, Copenhagen was our largest destination from China and we see more potential in Denmark with our upcoming new destinations and growth plans,” explains Juha Järvinen, Finnair’s chief commercial officer.
“We also started our route to Billund last spring and we have been very pleased as there is high demand from Finland to visit Legoland, in particular during the summer months, and the route connects well to our Asian network via Helsinki.”
In addition, Finnair will add a third daily frequency to Vilnius on weekdays year-round from May 15; a daily frequency to Warsaw for the peak summer season between June 5 and August 4; and an additional weekly frequency to Dublin for winter 2017. Also the Saturday flight to Alanya-Gazipasa, Turkey, will be extended until mid-December 2017.
