New exotic destinations, plus Europe-Lapland routes
Finnair reveals that it is expanding significantly for the winter 2017 season with new scheduled flights to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, Havana in Cuba, Goa in India and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.
It will also add frequencies to many of its winter holiday and business destinations in Asia. And there will be extra flights to winter destinations in Lapland, including new non-stop routes from London, Paris, Frankfurt and Zürich.
From November 19 later this year to March 18 next year, Finnair will fly a new scheduled weekly route to Puerto Vallarta on Mexico’s Pacific coast, to be operated on Sundays with the airline’s new A350.
Another weekly flight to Puerto Plata will be operated on Thursdays from November 30 to March 22, with an A330 aircraft, and from December 1 to March 23, Finnair will operate two weekly flights to Havana on Mondays and Fridays with an A350.
Goa will get a twice-weekly service between November 29 and March 21, on Wednesdays and Sundays with an A330. Finnair will also add a weekly frequency on its Delhi route, flying six times a week during the winter season.
Capacity will be added to Thailand with two extra weekly frequencies to Bangkok, bringing the total from Helsinki to 16, and adjusted to have late evening flights.
Schedules for the Krabi and Phuket routes for winter 2017 have also been adjusted for better connections for passengers flying from the Baltics and Scandinavia.
Finnair will add two frequencies to Singapore from the start of the winter season, making it a daily destination year-round, plus three additional weekly frequencies to Hong Kong, making it a 10-weekly operation year-round.
As for Finnish Lapland, Finnair says it will start flying non-stop flights to Lapland from London, Paris, Frankfurt and Zürich from mid-December 2017 until the end of March 2018, as the ski and holiday resorts in Kittilä and Ivalo are attracting an ever-increasing number of international travellers.
Finnair will fly twice a week between London Gatwick and Ivalo on Thursdays and Sundays, once a week between Zurich and Kittilä on Saturdays, once weekly between Frankfurt and Kittilä on Tuesdays and once weekly between Paris CDG and Kittilä on Tuesdays. All will be operated with A320 and A321 aircraft.
There will also be additional capacity from Helsinki: three more weekly flights to Rovaniemi, bringing it to 30 weekly frequencies, plus additional frequencies to Ivalo (four weekly), Kittilä (four weekly) and Kuusamo (once weekly). In total, Finnair will operate up to 52 weekly frequencies from Helsinki to Lapland’s airports during the peak winter season, an 18% increase from the current winter season.
