Tragedy over eastern Ukraine last July killed 298 people
The final report on the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine last year will be published on October 13, the Dutch Safety Board says.
The relatives of victims as well as national governments have been keenly awaiting the report, as it may shed light on who was responsible for the crash last July, in which 298 people were killed.
A preliminary report by the board last year blamed the tragedy on “high energy objects” hitting the aircraft. Western governments believe these were the result of a ground-to-air missile fired in error by Moscow-backed separatists.
Russia says this claim is wrong and instead blames the crash on weapons fired by the Ukrainian armed forces. Two-thirds of the victims were Dutch, but the Netherlands has so far avoided blaming either side.
