FlixBus Danmark to launch “cool” bus network in spring 2017
FlixBus, a rapidly growing transport start-up, is making Denmark its next national market. Together with Danish bus companies, FlixBus Danmark ApS will launch a domestic network and new cross-border services to Scandinavia and the rest of Europe.
From spring 2017, new FlixBuses are to connect large and medium-sized cities up to six times a day. Already a leading provider of domestic coach services in Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands, now FlixBus is coming to Scandinavia.
FlixBus was launched in Germany in 2013 to establish a new means of transport as a “reliable and green alternative” to carpooling and Deutsche Bahn. Following a merger with competing start-up MeinFernbus, it now operates over 70% of the German market measured in kilometres driven.
FlixBus says it provides Europe’s largest intercity bus network with 100,000 daily connections to 900 destinations in 20 countries.
“We want to offer green and smart mobility all over Denmark,” said Max Zeumer, FlixBus vice president for international business. “From spring 2017, the first Danish FlixBuses are going to run on high-frequent connections between all major cities. Together with regional bus partners, we are going to establish Denmark’s best long-distance coach network.”
“Buses are the most efficient and thus climate-friendly means of transport,” Jochen Engert, FlixBus founder and managing director, stresses. “FlixBus customers are able to compensate the CO2 emissions of their trip and therefore travel carbon neutral.”
He adds that the company has “attracted a whole new target group and simply made buses cool”.
FlixBus currently operates a cross-border service between Copenhagen and Berlin and also connects the Danish capital, Kolding and Odense to cities in the Netherlands. This summer alone, over 70,000 people have used a FlixBus cross-border service to or from Denmark.
