While the steep fall in the value of the rupee against the American dollar has created trouble for exporters, tour operators in India are anticipating a strong season.
“The fall in the value of the rupee means that domestic tourism and inbound domestic arrivals are on the increase,” said Mr Bobby Thakur of Kalka Travels in the nations capital today.
With the sliding rupee making overseas travel 15-30% costlier, Indians are also looking for holiday options within the country, strengthening the domestic market by 25% currently. “India has always represented value tourism for international tourists, this year will make a holiday in India particularly good value,” said Mr Thakur at the launch of the companie’s new website Real India by Kalka Travels recently.
