Event to unite Asia airlines and Europe airports

10th Routes Asia event this week in China promises to be biggest ever

Almost 90 airlines are preparing to attend the 10th Routes Asia event this week in China, making it the biggest in the series so far. The 2012 edition, which takes place at the InterContinental Hotel Chengdu, will be attended by 86 airlines – 27% more than the 2011 event in Seoul. Airports in Europe will also be in attendance, keen on attracting new routes by Asian airlines.
For example, one of the attending airlines, Cebu Pacific, will use the event to hold a briefing to inform airports of its future expansion plans.
“There is clearly a continuing high demand for better connections between Asia’s growing cities. In addition to the big Asian airlines, Middle Eastern airlines and Asian low-cost carriers play an increasingly important role in the region. Perhaps more surprisingly, we also see an increase in airports from North America and Europe at Routes Asia as they pursue air links within the growing markets of Asia,” David Stroud, executive vice president airports for UBM Aviation, explained.
The event will feature a panel of industry experts who will participate in a number of moderator-led discussions, covering issues such as network development and market opportunities in China, challenges and opportunities in India and “dealing with traffic downs” following economic and natural disasters.
