Europe’s best value beaches – in Germany

Some of Europe’s cheapest beaches are not far away
Europe’s best-value beaches are not to be found in the Mediterranean, a new survey has found, but in Germany.
Online travel agency Travelbird has created the Beach Price Index, ranking the world’s most popular beaches from least to most expensive.
The cost of an average day out is calculated at each of the 250 most highly rated beaches according to TripAdvisor, including the average price of a bottle of water, a beer, a scoop of ice cream, sun cream and a lunchtime meal.
The world’s most expensive beach is the Plage du Maui in French Polynesia (€53.24). The cheapest are in India (such as Varkala Beach in Kerala, India) and Vietnam (like Cua Dai Beach in Hoi An).
In Europe, Italy has some of the priciest sand, with three of its beaches in the top 20. The cheapest in Europe? The 7km Timmendorfer Strand in Schleswig-Holstein, which comes 238th out of 250 with a total bill for the above products of just €16.70.
