Radisson Blu Riverside watering hole wins Best Bar Design
A “genius designed” bar and restaurant, Cuckoo’s Nest, part of the recently opened Radisson Blu Riverside Hotel in Gothenburg, has won Best Bar Design in the European Hotel Design Awards 2013.
The design was inspired by the film A Beautiful Mind and, according to designer Erik Nissen Johansen, the décor is intended to be on the border between genius and madness.
“We wanted to create a meeting place for innovators, geeks and geniuses who populate Lindholmen Science Park, Gothenburg,” he said.
The inspiration for Cuckoo’s Nest comes both from the local area and from films, bringing in different elements such as an old English library, Swedish classrooms and laboratory environments, with the goal to encourage creative thinking and new inspirations. Volvo, Ericsson and Chalmers University of Technology contributed ideas and objects that became part of the décor.
The judges said that “this concept was highly commended […] for its storytelling and sense of place achieved by designers Stylt Trampoli.”
Radisson Blu Riverside is located in Gothenburg’s old wharf area that has become a trendy residential and world-leading arena for research, innovation and education within new technologies and communications.
