Commission will review rules on state aid over next 12 months

Investigations by European Union regulators into 15 cases of state aid in aviation will update rules so that support does not put other airlines at a disadvantage. The European Commission is looking into whether authorities in Sweden, France, Germany, Ireland, Austria, Hungary and Romania have given funding or subsidies that unfairly favoured certain airlines or airports. Many of the cases involve deals between airports and budget airlines.
Due to the number of cases, EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia pledged to review the rules on state aid over the next 12 months.
