Emirate announces program to train hotel staff

Sharjah reveals phase two of “Welcome” initiative
Determined to attract 10 million visitors as part of Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has introduced a new program to train hotel front-office staff to be more customer-centred.
This program in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates’ third-biggest emirate and recognised by many as being the home of Arab and Islamic culture and art, will focus on receptionists and customer service representatives who deal directly with tourists and guests, improving their communication skills and service.
It represents phase two of the Marhabtain (“Welcome”) initiative, which aims to develop human resources to offer visitors a streamlined experience. Phase one of the initiative consisted of a training program for Sharjah’s taxi drivers to enhance their customer service skills and promote the emirate’s tourism landmarks.
At a conference to announce the program, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, the authority’s director general, commented: “The launch of the new training program for developing the human resource capabilities in the hotel sector underlines our commitment to work with public and private sector partners to achieve the Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021.”
He added: “Certainly, the spirit of teamwork and fruitful cooperation with our partners in the tourism sector is pivotal to develop the tourism potential of the emirate and help to achieve Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021.”
