Issues with engine, air conditioning and mechanics

Two United Airlines flights have made emergency returns in separate incidents on the same day. A flight to Seattle returned safely to Newark on August 19 after reporting smoke in the cockpit and cabin, while another returned to Houston after experiencing mechanical issues. Speaking about the Newark incident, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen commented: “Preliminary indications are a possible problem with the air conditioning system.”
On August 18, another United flight, this time bound for Berlin, returned safely to Newark after reporting a problem with its left engine. It is possible that debris from a blown tyre may have been sucked into the engine on take-off. Investigations into the three incidents are continuing.
