There were no emergency exits, officials say
A fire at a five-star luxury hotel in Karachi, Pakistan, has killed at least 11 people and injured around 75. The blaze at the six-floor Regent Plaza started in the ground-floor kitchen before spreading through the building.
Many of the injuries occurred as trapped guests were forced to jump from upper floors. Others tried to make ropes out of sheets and blankets.
“We tied the bedsheets together to make a rope and used that to climb down from the fourth floor,” said injured man Khalid Mehmood. “We had to jump midway, as the bed sheets weren’t long enough.”
Officials are saying there were no emergency exits in the building. Firefighters were able to rescue some guests with ladders.
