Pass to give unlimited access to tourist attractions
From November, tourists in Egypt will be able to buy a Cairo Pass permit giving them unlimited entry to attractions and museums including archaeological sites for five days.
The cost of the pass will be US$100 for adults and $50 for students. Tourists will have to provide an ID with photo and a photocopy of their passports, while students will have to provide their university ID, says the country’s Supreme Council of Antiquities which announced the decision.
Cairo Pass encompasses places of tourism in the Cairo and Giza governorates only. The pass can be paid for in other currencies besides US dollars and can be obtained from several places including the Egyptian Museum, the Salah Al-Din citadel and the Ministry of Antiquities.
The Supreme Council of Antiquities says that the aim of the pass is primarily to boost the financial resources of the Ministry of Antiquities and to increase the foreign currency inflow to the country. Egypt’s tourism revenues in 2016 reached US$ 3.4 billion, compared to $11 billion in 2010.
