Total up 11.2% in March, European routes up 12.6%
Passenger numbers at Copenhagen Airport were up by as much as 11.2% in March year-on-year, reaching close to 2.3 million passengers, as strong ongoing growth was reflected in the month of Easter.
The highest growth during the month was seen on European routes, which saw 12.6% more travellers this year. But domestic traffic showed weaker growth, up 2.4%, the main driver being traffic between Copenhagen and Aalborg.
Intercontinental traffic grew by 6.7%, and by 11.2% for the year to date. Total year-to-date traffic grew by 13.4%.
“European cities are popular travel destinations for Danish travellers, and many inbound travellers have also become aware of Copenhagen and Denmark as attractive destinations. Compared with last year, there are now more flights and seats available for many destinations, and new options have been added. A wider range of both tickets and destinations boosts growth,” said Thomas Woldbye, the airport’s chief executive, pointing to Hungary-based low-cost carrier Wizz Air, among others, which started operations to Skopje in March and also announced a route to Sofia scheduled to open in June.
