Hamad International Airport sees more than 28 million pax
Doha’s new international airport has reported a successful first year of operations. Hamad International Airport served more than 28 million passengers between June 2014 and May 2015, a 23.6% year-on-year increase those served at Doha International Airport, Qatar’s previous travel hub
Exactly 28,047,750 million passengers use the airport during the period. The airport now accommodates 36 airlines, with an 11.4% rise in aircraft movements over the last year.
Qatar Airways has benefited from the transition to its new home. The new airport has facilitated further growth of the airline, which now operates 157 aircraft to 146 destinations worldwide.
Having only been up and running for a year, HIA has already scooped six Skytrax 2015 awards at the Skytrax Airport Award Ceremony, including Best Airport in the Middle East and second position as Best Airport in Performance and Services.
The new airport has also won the Strategic Project of the Year award at the 2015 Global Projects of the Year awards ceremony organised by CG/LA Infrastructure.
