Win a $10,000 travel adventure

Whether you still live in the town you grew up in or have adopted a whole new country to call home, travel adventures can happen anywhere and are always better when shared.

Following the hugely successful annual Ultimate Traveller video competitions which showcased hundreds of travel lovers’ adventures from across the globe, Cover-More, Australia’s leading provider of travel insurance and medical assistance, is now focussing a little closer to (your) home and is on the search for the Ultimate Ambassador.

Just by recording and sharing a short video of you showing off what you love about your home suburb, town, city or country of residence, you could win a $10,000 travel prize.

To enter this year, create a two-minute video of you being a great ambassador, showing you enjoying some kind of adventure as a ‘Selfie Traveller’ in the place that’s “home” to you.

Cover-More’s Glenn Broadhurst explains: “This year we’re doing things a little differently with our Ultimate video competition. We’ve seen first-hand how much passion and local expertise travel lovers have and we believe that knowledge should be celebrated and shared. We also know that you often don’t even need to leave your backyard to have a great travel adventure.

“So we are looking to find the Ultimate Ambassador of your home suburb, town, city, or even your whole country and all you need is your camera and your imagination. The video can be as simple or as complicated, funny or serious as you want to make it, as long as it’s in your home country.

“Maybe it’s you sharing your secret beach hideaway, your favourite parks, or your top-pick restaurants or markets. Maybe it’s your unique commute to work, the wildlife that lives in your area, or best shopping destination. Whatever it is, we want to see you in action as your home-town’s ambassador.”

Your video submission gives you the chance to win the major prize of a travel adventure to the value of $10,000 and a GoPro.
One entry will also win the People’s Choice Award, where the ‘Most Popular’ video (as voted by the public) will win a $1,000 travel voucher.
Last year’s competition, which allowed videos based on any travel adventure, was won with this video by Daniel Magana from Mexico and was filmed while he was in Australia.

“I made the best decision of my life, as soon as I finished high school I took a gap year and moved to Australia with some of my best friends. Throughout this incredible year I also discovered that I had a passion for photography and film. The purpose behind my photos and video is to attempt to connect and I always aim to spark something inside others and inspire them to get out there and see the world and what it has to offer.”

Meanwhile, last year’s People’s Choice Award was won by Mari Johnson, 30, from San Anselmo, California, USA with her video ‘8 months abroad’.

Talking about why she decided to enter the Ultimate Traveller video competition Mari said: “Long-term travel has always been a dream of mine and I finally made it happen. I worked hard, saved money, sold the majority of my stuff, and set out on an eight-month journey across Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

“I came back almost broke, but rich with experiences that I will never forget. I love sharing my travels with fellow wanderlusters and it means the world to me to be able to inspire others to get out there and enjoy life.”

See how 2015’s winner Stephen Parry, 24, from Ocean Reef WA, spent his $10,000 travel adventure here. “After winning this incredible competition, I used the prize on an unforgettable Europe trip as well as a cultural tour through Africa, spanning more countries than I could have imagined. And the best part was I shared the experience with my partner Jess,” Stephen said.

A total of 130 entries were received from 21 countries in last year’s global Ultimate Traveller competition, including Japan, South Africa, Philippines, China, Canada, Germany, France, USA, Poland, Australia, England, Wales, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, Ireland, India, Malaysia, Netherlands and Bahrain, and this year’s 2017 Ultimate Ambassador Competition is set to top that.

Entries are open now and close on 15 October 2017. Winners will be announced on 20 October 2017.
