Innovators of today, masters of tomorrow
Design Hotels™ presents eight pioneering, out-of-the-box thinkers who are changing the way we think about travel as a whole. From craftsmen and architects to musicians and visual artists, each of these Design Hotels™ Originals proves that behind every great hotel, there is an even greater hotelier.
Italian-born Alessandro Catenacci is the driving force behind Stockholm’s Nobis Hotel, an oasis of calmly luxurious Scandinavian design on the historic Norrmalmstorg Square. With the opening of Memmo Príncipe Real, Original Rodrigo Machaz has brought a new sense of luxury to Lisbon’s hippest neighborhood. Chattanooga’s first boutique hotel, The Dwell Hotel, owes its unique retro-meets-luxury aesthetics to the vision of owner Seija Ojanpera. Hong Kong’s Ovolo Southside hotel represents the values and visionary approach that has made Girish Jhunjhnuwala one of Asia’s most successful entrepreneurs. As a world traveler and cosmopolitan, John Voigtmann finally found a place to call home in a historic building in Tuscany, La Bandita Townhouse. Over in France, Hotel Vernet was transformed from a sumptuous Haussmann-style building into a sleek 50-room hotel in the heart of Paris by Anne Jousee. Nestled among Umbrias vineyards and housed in a former monastery, Eremito is the brainchild of former fashion designer Marcello Murzilli, while Phuket’s The Slate is the very definition of a family affair, established by father Wichit Na-Ranong and his daughter Prakaikaew Na-Ranong.
