New aqua parks to rise in Høje-Taastrup and Aarhus
The world’s fifth-largest indoor aqua park is being planned in Høje-Taastrup, in Copenhagen’s outer western suburbs. And another park has been approved in Aarhus.
In Høje-Taastup, Nordic Water Universe will cover 840,000sqm, divided into two parts – a holiday and amusement ride area, and a recreational nature park.
“It’s a fantastic project – for Høje-Taastrup and the rest of Denmark,” proclaimed Michael Ziegler, the municipality’s mayor, who added that it would “attract thousands of guests, from families with children and conference participants to tourists from abroad.”
Wyndham Hotel Group is reported to have signed on for the ambitious project.
Construction should begin later this year, the first of five phases to be built by 2020 including over 80,000sqm of vacation homes, aqua park areas, amusement rides, shops, cafés, restaurants, a hotel and conference facilities. The whole thing is expected to be finished by 2028.
Meanwhile, Skovbakken Swimming says is planning a 12,600sqm water park and pool complex in Aarhus, at the Vejlby-Risskov hall and adjoining football and athletics fields.
Scheduled to open in 2020, it will include Denmark’s second longest waterslide (105 metres long), pools, spas, saunas, fitness rooms, a physiotherapy centre, meeting rooms and café.
