Aim is to cut travel times between Copenhagen and Malmö
Denmark and Sweden may merge their border controls for train traffic to an effort cut travel times between the two countries.
Stronger border controls, set up in January as the refugee crisis intensified, have increased travel times between Denmark and Sweden by as much as an hour.
Rail passengers are stopped three times when travelling between Denmark and Sweden – at Copenhagen Airport, Hyllie and Malmö. The aim now is to have controls only at Copenhagen Airport.
The Danish and Swedish justice ministers, Søren Pind and Anders Ygeman, met at the airport last week to discuss the options.
“There are a number of judicial problems associated with the Swedish police working on the Danish side, but we are looking into it,” Pind told DR Nyheder.
