Decision on third Heathrow runway delayed again

Decision places Heathrow’s competitiveness in jeopardy
Once again, the British government has postponed a politically-charged decision on how to improve airport capacity around London, putting Heathrow’s competitiveness in jeopardy.
Business leaders are angry at the government’s decision to postpone the decision on whether to build a third runway at Heathrow.
A three-year independent review has already named the airport as the preferred location of an additional runway for the capital, rather than place it at airports such as Gatwick or Stanstead or build a new airport.
Instead the government said last night that it needed more information on the environmental impact of a third Heathrow runway – with a further delay of six months.
“Business leaders will be tearing their hair out at the news that, yet again, a decision on expanding the UK’s airport capacity has been delayed,” said Simon Walker, director general of the Institute of Directors.
