Deal on two new cruise ships for Carnival

New ships for Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival has signed a deal to build two new cruise ships – one as a new class of vessel for Holland America Line and one for Carnival Cruise Lines. A memorandum of agreement has been signed with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the construction of a 4,000-passenger ship for Carnival
Cruise Lines, scheduled for delivery in winter 2016, and a 2,660-passenger ship for Holland America, scheduled for delivery in autumn 2015. The total combined cost will be approximately $195,000 per lower berth. Carnival Corporation & plc therefore now has nine new ships scheduled for delivery – two for 2013, two for 2014, three for 2015 and two for 2016.
As reported last month, Royal Caribbean also confirmed it was in negotiations for the construction of a third Oasis-class cruise ship, to be delivered in 2016. Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas are the world’s two biggest cruise ships, with maximum capacity for 6,296 and 6,400 passengers, respectively.
