Interest in Czech Airlines to be “tested” during new tender
A tender for the sale of Czech state carrier CSA Czech Airlines to a “strategic partner” will be launched either at the end of this quarter or the start of the second quarter, the Czech Finance Ministry has said, according to a report in the weekly magazine Tyden. Talks on the sale have already been held, the magazine said, with two airlines – Air France and Korean Air.
CSA is a member of the Skyteam alliance. It is still struggling to recover from a large-scale expansion that took place six or seven years ago, which severely strained the carrier’s finances. Following a failed privatisation attempt two years ago the Czech government is stressing caution, saying that its aim now is to “test” interest in the airline.
“We have to first find out what the interest is and whether there are serious partners at all,” the ministry source told the magazine.
