Voyages to Antiquity axes Far East 2013-14 cruises
Voyages to Antiquity, a niche cruise line, has been forced to axe its Far East 2013-14 winter season, after bad weather in the same region last year made it impractical to return. The line sailed the Far East for the first time in winter 2012-13, with its 378-passenger vessel Aegean Odyssey, but it suffered extremely tough weather in the South China Sea.
“It is with regret that Voyages to Antiquity has cancelled its winter cruise programme for 2013-14,” the line said in a statement. “The programme of Far East voyages was scheduled to start in November 2013 and was planned to follow a similar route to the first season which finished in March this year.”
It continued: “The decision to curtail this second season of winter cruises was not taken lightly, and comes after much consideration by the management team. The fact is that despite many positive aspects, the programme of 2012-13 had a number of voyages which encountered several unpredicted challenges beyond its control including abnormally bad weather systems.”
