Paul Trotter, now 34, sentenced in UK to four years in prison
A cruise-ship crew member formerly working for Cunard has been sentenced in the UK to four years in prison for sexual assaults against children. Paul Trotter, now 34, from West Yorkshire, worked in Cunard’s “Play Zone” children’s clubs on board Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria and the offenses took place on the ships between November 2007 and August 2011. As previously reported, Trotter made films of himself abusing a total of 13 boys, all of whom were under the age of 13, on all three of the line’s vessels. He also possessed more than 900 indecent images of children, according to the newspaper The Independent.
Cunard says it is now improving safeguards to protect children on its ships. After the sentencing, the cruise line’s president, Peter Shanks, pledged continued support for the families affected. He added that the UK’s National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) had completed an audit of the company’s childcare policies and programs and would perform the audit on an annual basis.
