Fire breaks out on board Royal Caribbean cruise ship

In the latest incident of bad publicity for the cruise industry, a Royal Caribbean ship en route to the Bahamas has caught fire, ruining a cruise break for thousands of people. The aft of the Grandeur of the Seas was a blackened mess once it docked at Freeport, Bahamas, yesterday, three days after departing from Baltimore. Its original destination was the Bahamas’ CocoCay.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it raged for two hours before being extinguished. It began on the aft mooring deck and spread to the fourth deck. Passengers were told to go to their muster stations and that it was not a drill. They remained there in life jackets for four hours as acrid smoke could be smelled within the ship.
However, the fact that the crew quickly provided instruction encouraged calm amongst the passengers. No one was seriously injured in the incident. Royal Caribbean has promised all passengers a full refund plus a voucher for a future cruise.
