Low-cost carrier’s aircraft lands 130 kilometres off target

Vietnam’s aviation authority has suspended crew members of an airline after a flight bound for Da Lat landed at another airport 130 kilometres away.

The no-frills VietJet Air flight VJ 8575, which was carrying 200 passengers, landed at Cam Ranh airport, near the popular tourist city of Nha Trang, instead of the Central Highlands town to the west, the Daily Telegraph reports.

In an online statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said the incident occurred “because of the flight coordinators and crew members of VietJet Air, who did not correctly follow flight procedures”.

The authority said it had therefore decided to “temporarily suspend the licences” of the flight crew, as well as the other staff involved in the mix-up, while an investigation was carried out. It also said that “appropriate measures” towards the airline would also be taken at a later stage.
