Danish capital in top 10 convention cities worldwide
It’s no coincidence that the international conference Women Deliver was held last week in Copenhagen. The Danish capital is among the top 10 convention cities in the world.
As a convention and conference destination, Copenhagen ranks tenth worldwide according to the International Congress and Convention Association. It has leaped three spots up the table past Brussels, Amsterdam and Prague compared to last year.
Berlin is first for meetings globally, followed by Paris, Barcelona, Vienna and London. Madrid, Singapore, Istanbul, Lisbon and Copenhagen complete the top ten.
But the Danish capital could climb even further, as 2016 will be its busiest convention year ever. Around 100,000 delegates are expected to attend significant congresses this year, such as Women Deliver, Sustainable Brands, the EAN neurology congress, the EHA hematology congress, the neuroscience conference FENS and the oncology congress ESMO.
“Copenhagen has an extensive selection of modern hotel and congress facilities,” Wonderful Copenhagen says. “In recent years, the number of hotel rooms has quadrupled and several new conference facilities are currently under construction. Today the city offers more than 21,000 hotel rooms.”
By country, however, Denmark is further down the ranks. It also moved up three places, but only to 19th. The US, Germany, the UK, Spain and France are the top five countries to hold a convention in.
