HC Andersen-themed park would have Nordics’ tallest tower
Tivoli and Bakken, the Danish capital’s two amusement parks, could be facing some tough competition within the next ten years if a new Hans Christian Andersen-theme park opens.
On the cards to open sometime between 2025 and 2027, the DKK 6.5 billion (€870 million), 85,000 square metre fun centre in Nordhavn is being designed by architects Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG).
“It will be a ‘Class A’ amusement park and we’ve obtained ten sketch proposals from Forrec based on HC Andersen’s adventures,” said Kurt Immanuel Pedersen, the head of the company behind the plan.
“For instance, it could be a 4D cinema where one can feel the heat and cold and perhaps smell the roast goose from The Little Match Girl. It could also be a universe from The Tinderbox where you encounter the big dogs.”
The focal point would be the H C Andersen Adventure Tower, which at 280 metres would be the tallest building in the Nordics.
But first, approval from the city’s finance committee and technical and environmental committee will be needed.
