Europe’s travel elite to go head-to-head in the Algarve
Copenhagen, London, Lisbon, Paris, Rome, Istanbul and St Petersburg will go head-to-head for the title of Europe’s Leading City Break Destination at a red-carpet ceremony hosted by the World Travel Awards at the newly opened Conrad Algarve on October 6. Another category to watch at the awards’ Europe Ceremony is Europe’s Leading New Hotel, with Corinthia Hotel London, Fairmont Grand Hotel Kyiv, Jumeirah Frankfurt and the St Pancras Renaissance London Hotel among the contenders. Leading travel decision-makers from across Europe are scheduled to attend the gala evening.
“Europe’s travel and tourism economy has demonstrated remarkable resilience, given the macro-economic challenges across the continent,” WTA President & Founder Graham E Cooke says. “Our nominees represent those organisations that have made the greatest contribution to the performance in the face of adversity.”
The Europe Ceremony is the third leg of the awards’ worldwide tour, which also includes regional heats in Dubai, Singapore and the Turks & Caicos. The winners then compete at a grand final, due to take place at the Oberoi, Gurgaon, New Delhi, on December 12.
Winners at the WTA awards for Africa held last week included South African Airways, the destination of Marrakech, the luxury resort of Amanjena in Marrakech, the Hilton Cairo Zamalek Residences in Egypt, the Saxon Boutique Hotel and the Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa and the tourist brand Magical Kenya.
