Operator appoints “search and talent consultancy”
As one more top manager at Thomas Cook announces that he will leave the company, the tour operator reveals that it has brought in a “search and talent consultancy” to evaluate its own board members. Simon Robinson, chief executive responsible for Thomas Cook’s joint venture with Co-operative Travel on the retail side of the business, will leave the company at the end of the month. At the same time, the operator’s retail managing director, Joanna Wild, who had been due to leave the company, will now stay and add Robinson’s responsibilities to her own.
Thomas Cook says that it appointed the personnel consultancy Wickland Westcott to “deliver a bespoke programme”, and this had led to the departure of a number of senior members of the Cook team. The board’s chairman, Frank Meysman, said the consultants had “developed a thorough process to engage with our current board members, senior executives and external advisors.”
He added: “The team’s professional delivery of its report at our board meeting promoted a high level debate, resulting in a number of agreed actions which we will execute over the coming months.”
Keith McCambridge, a talent consultant at Wickland Westcott, said: “Our approach to the evaluation at Thomas Cook was to focus primarily on the dynamics of the board in terms of personalities and relationships, rather than just the corporate structures and procedures in place.
