Cook CEO says Greece and Spain are “resurgent”

Tour operator giant is fighting back in key destinations

The financial recovery across Europe is helping tour operator giant Thomas Cook fight back in its key destinations, its chief executive says.

In an interview with the UK’s Mail on Sunday newspaper, Harriet Green says that a number of areas are seeing an improvement.

“We’re seeing the resurgence of Greece and Spain. Turkey’s strong. Tunisia has come back in. Of course it’s always susceptible to problems. I do have family members right now in Egypt, and we had such fabulous properties. You’re always going to be affected if there are challenges in some countries,” she says.

Green also reveals how she has increased the number of female senior managers at the company. But she says she opposes quotas for women in the boardroom.

“I passionately believe in diversity. When I joined Thomas Cook everybody that worked for me was male and either British or German. Now, of the people who report to me directly, 35% are female,” she told the paper.
