Last year, KLM Cityhopper signed an order for five additional E190 aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer. This economical aircraft will replace part of KLM’s Fokker fleet. Sixteen of KLM’s 20 Fokker-100s have already left the fleet. The four remaining aircraft will be phased out of operations and sold before the end of the year.
The Embraer 190 is also deployed by Régional, Air France’s regional subsidiary. The E190 can carry up to 100 passengers and offers a spacious and comfortable 2-2 seat configuration. Owing to its efficient design, including upturned winglets on its wingtips, the E190 is more economical, with fuel consumption at least 10% below that of its predecessor. This also ensures lower CO2 emissions.
The new Embraer is the third aircraft in the KLM and KLM Cityhopper fleet that has the SkyTeam livery. The first of these aircraft, a Boeing 777-300ER, landed at Schiphol in August 2009, and KLM Engineering & Maintenance later also decorated a Boeing 737-900 with the now familiar grey-blue livery. It has been agreed that all SkyTeam members paint 3% of their fleet in alliance colours.
