Christmas markets open in Berlin

Attractions include a Nordic-style Christmas market
Just days after the terror attack of December 19, Berlin’s Christmas markets are open for seasonal cheer and family fun – with additional security such as bag searches, concrete barriers and a bigger police presence. Most will be open at least until New Year.
Some of the best include a magical Christmas market with the Baroque setting of Charlottenburg Palace which focuses on quality rather than quantity, with special tours in the palace’s new wing; the 43-year-old market in Spandau’s old town centre in the west of the city; a new Christmas Garden in Berlin’s Botanical Garden in the district of Dahlem; attractions like Europe’s biggest mobile snow tubing run at Winter World on Potsdamer Platz; the Nordic-style Lucia Christmas market at Kulturbrauerei in the Prenzlauer Berg district with ginger biscuits, handicrafts and rides; ice skating, mulled wine and roasted almonds at Rotes Rathaus; and of course the Christmas market at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, which will be open in memory of the attack’s victims until New Year’s Day.
