Biggest threat from emerging C919 aircraft manufacturer Comac
The biggest future competitor to the dominance of Boeing and Airbus will be China’s aircraft manufacturer Comac, the president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes says. Speaking at the Aviation Club of the UK, Jim Albaugh explained that Comac will likely be the biggest threat to the current superiority of Boeing and Airbus. Given China’s $5 billion commitment to developing a regional jet and another $30 billion for the C919 narrowbody program, Comac is the most likely manufacturer to succeed in developing programs comparable to those of the “big two”.
Competition exists from Canada, Brazil and China, but “I don’t believe all of them are going to be successful,” Albaugh said. “My guess is one of them will emerge and become a very good competitor for us, and I won’t be surprised if it was China.”
