Passengers relieved as ship limps into port in Alabama
As the powerless Carnival Triumph limps into the port of Mobile, Alabama, Carnival Cruise Lines says it is offering passengers $500 each in compensation. Passengers will also get a future cruise credit equal to the amount paid for this voyage.
Passengers covered their faces to mask the smell of overflowing sewage as they disembarked. As reported, broken toilets and lack of power on the ship resulted in the passengers having to use plastic bags instead of toilets and camp out on deck to avoid the overflowing sewage. This followed an engine-room fire while the ship was in the Gulf of Mexico.
There were more than 3,000 passengers on the ship, who had to experience the worsening conditions over a period of four days before being towed to port, medical attention, free hotel rooms, proper showers and clean clothes.
