And some hotels are installing electric charging stations
Business and leisure tourists who are keen to do more to reduce their carbon footprints are finding it a little easier to rent cars that do less harm to the environment. Big international car hire firms are adding more electric cars to their growing hybrid vehicle fleets. To compliment this, some hotels are taking the step of installing electric charging stations, or giving the drivers of electric and hybrid car discounts on parking fees. For travellers, high fuel prices are making it an attractive option.
Examples include Avis Budget Group adding Chevy Volt electric cars to its fleet at New York LaGuardia; Enterprise adding Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt cars at around 50 sites; and Hertz Rent-A-Car offering electric cars in New York, Washington, San Francisco, London, Switzerland and China. Hertz will add more cities to the list in 2012.
