Car bomb injures seven on Koh Samui

Bomb explodes in car park of shopping mall
Seven people have been wounded on the Thai holiday island of Koh Samui after a bomb exploded in the car park of a shopping mall. The incident happened on Friday night at the Central Festival mall.
“It’s a car bomb, but we cannot confirm what type of explosive materials they used,” Lieutenant-General Prawut Thavornsiri, spokesman for the Thai national police, said.
Poonsak Sophonsasmorong of the island’s disaster prevention office said that six of the injured were from Thailand, the other from Italy. All were treated for minor injuries.
Koh Samui is situated in the Gulf of Thailand. The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office says “there is a high threat of terrorism” in Thailand and continues to advise against “all but essential travel” to the southern provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla on the Thai-Malaysia border. The Australian authorities have indicated that extremists may be planning to target westerners in the southern border provinces.
