All member states and a total of 1,600 delegates are expected to take part.

Over 500 exhibition booths have been sold in preparation for this year’s ASEAN Tourism Forum 2011. All 10 of the organisation’s member nations will be represented at the annual leisure travel trade event, which showcases a large number of the region’s destinations, products and services. ATF 2011, which takes place in Phnom Penh on January 15 to 21, marks the event’s 30th anniversary.

A total of 1,600 delegates are expected to take part. Around 1,000 buyers have registered their interest to source at the event and 400 have been selected to attend under a privileged hosting program. Buyers include delegates from Asia-Pacific (55%) and Europe (37%). ATF Travel Exchange, or TRAVEX for short, is a three-day travel trade mart that will take place on January 19 to 21 at the city’s Diamond Island Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Besides the event’s networking opportunities and business appointments, there will also be a tourism conference, billed as “the educational front of ATF”, which will feature topics such as ecotourism and sustainable tourism in the ASEAN region as well as managing tourism in destinations that are home to heritage sites.

Invited speakers hail from global institutions such as the UNWTO and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, who will engage the audience through interactive panel discussions. ATF 2011 tees off with a game of golf at the Royal Cambodia Phnom Penh Golf Course, while the opening ceremony is set to be a spectacular event featuring 500 local and foreign performers in traditional and contemporary performances, rounded off by 30 minutes of fireworks.
