Iceland ProCruises expands quickly with range of cruises
A small cruise line in Iceland is seeing its business boom, thanks to the country’s ever-increasing arrival numbers.
Iceland Pro Cruises has signed a three-year extension to operate its Ocean Diamond vessel on a seasonal basis and is thinking of expanding with a second ship.
The company’s business is up 200% from a year ago, says Anka Bröcker, managing director and partner.
“We have renewed our charter agreement through to 2020,” she tells Cruise Industry News. “The US market is picking up quickly. The long-term plan is to have English-speaking cruises and German-speaking cruises.”
The 189-passenger Ocean Diamond is chartered from SunStone Ships, while CMI Leisure handles the onboard product.
While most cruises are for nine days, with longer sailings available to Greenland, new for 2018 is a seven-day program aimed at the American market. A second ship could join the company in time for the 2019 season.
“We are looking into several ships,” says Bröcker. “We know what we need, and do not need to be above 220 or 240 guests so we can get into harbours.”
